Guy Day's Hints and Tips

Guy Day, Head Chef at Weston Park, the stately home on the Shropshire / Staffordshire border is to lead a series of workshops throughout 2011 letting guests into some of his culinary secrets and offering practical hints and tips on a wide range of topics.

Based around a Q&A session Guy will take guests through various culinary themes including demonstrations, tastings and recipe cards to take home. Each session is followed by a two-course lunch in the Granary Grill, Bar & Restaurant.

This year Guy has already warmed up winter with “One Pot Suppers”, solved guests’ pastry dilemmas with “Perfecting Pastry” and has let people into his secrets for stress free “Easy Entertaining”.

June’s theme will be Fabulous Fish where Guy will teach guests various methods to prepare fish such as filleting, smoking and scaling as well as how to match the right fish with the right dish! Fabulous Fish takes place on Thursday 16th and Friday 17th June.

For a truly sizzling summer you can’t beat a BBQ and in July Guy will look at great prepare ahead marinades, different cuts of meat, salads and accompaniments. Best Ever BBQ’s takes place on Wednesday 13th and Thursday 14th July.

Guy comments: “I have developed these themes through feedback from past events and every session is designed to give participants handy and practical tips that they can take away and use in every day cooking.”

Glorious autumnal produce will be on the menu for October’s sessions including mushrooms and orchard fruits. Guy will demonstrate seasonal sweet and savoury dishes to warm up winter and stock up the store cupboard. Autumnal Flavours takes place on Wednesday 5th and Thursday 6th October.

All your Christmas culinary questions will be answered on Tuesday 15th, Wednesday 16th and Thursday 17th November during Christmas Hints & Tips. Don’t worry about dry Turkey and traditional vegetables, Guy will talk about alternative cuts of meat, prepare ahead puddings and great party food.

Each Hints & Tips session will include tastings and recipe cards to take home and the price includes a two-course lunch in the Granary Grill, Bar & Restaurant.

The sessions start at 11.15am – 12noon and cost £15 per person which includes coffee on arrival and a two-course lunch. Places must be pre-booked.
